One of the areas greatly affected by the 1965 atrocities was Central Java. According to several witness testimonies in the towns of Ambarawa and Pati, those affected by the incident included those at the Institute of People’s Culture (Lembaga Kebudayaan Masyarakat/ Lekra) whos member’s were strongly associated with the Indonesian Communist Party (Partai Komunis Indonesia), the Educated Society, people of Chinese-Indonesian heritage who were involved in the Indonesian Citizenship Consultative Body (Badan Permusjawaratan Kewarganegaraan Indonesia), and farmers unions such as the Indonesian Peasant Front (Barisan Tani Indonesia/ BT). Other groups that were afflicted in the 65 incident because were those thought to be affiliated with the Indonesian Communist Party. Most of them were exiled into Nusa Kambangan and Buru Islands.
