The National Board for the Placement and Protection of Indonesian Overseas Worker (Badan Nasional dan Perlindungan Tenaga Kerja Indonesia/ BNP2TKI) report in 2016 stated that the East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) Province has the highest human trafficking case in Indonesia. According to this report, human trafficking practices occur in various forms such as an Indonesian Migrant Worker’s (PMI), sex workers, child labourer, adoption, marriage arrangements, abduction, slavery, and organ harvesting. From 2016 until 2019, 350 East Nusa Tenggara citizens died under the Indonesian Migrant Worker scheme. Most of these people were victims of human trafficking.
